Decarbonisation roadmap

Decarbonising, one circular solution at a time

Our decarbonisation roadmap is more than a plan, it’s a commitment to a future where circularity and carbon reduction go hand in hand.

Decarbonisation roadmap

At Schoeller Allibert, we create solutions that are efficient by design and circular by nature. With a focus on durability and reusability, our Returnable Transport Packaging (RTP) solutions can help reduce and prevent single-use waste. By incorporating more recycled materials into our production, we’re not only lowering our own carbon footprint but also enabling our customers to do the same.

In 2024, we became the first company in the sector to set near-term Science Based Targets (SBTs) to drive our decarbonisation journey. With a comprehensive roadmap in place, we’re strategically focusing our efforts to meet our 2023 targets, while also preparing to commit to a net-zero target.

  • (Near-term SBT) 90% reduction absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2033

  • (Near-term SBT) 33% reduction absolute scope 3 emissions by 2033

Decarbonisation roadmap

Our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions

We have developed a comprehensive decarbonisation roadmap to drive meaningful carbon reductions and achieve our ambitious decarbonisation targets. This roadmap outlines the key actions we are taking to meet our near-term Science Based Targets (SBTs) while ensuring long-term sustainability.

Driving impact through innovation

Switching to renewable energy and using recycled plastics will lower the carbon footprint of many Schoeller Allibert products by up to 85%. To track progress, we have developed a product carbon footprint tool, allowing customers to measure emissions reductions from sustainable materials and green energy.

Achieving ambitious targets requires bold action, collaboration, and innovation. With a clear roadmap in place, we are accelerating our decarbonisation strategy and creating a low-carbon future—one circular solution at a time.

Our plan focuses on three key areas to cut emissions across our value chain:

Key areas

Our plan of actions focuses on 3 key areas:

Scope 1

Implement energy-saving measures
Scope 1

We're cutting direct emissions by improving energy efficiency, upgrading technology, and advancing transport decarbonisation.

Scope 2

Switch to renewable energy sources
Scope 2

We're on track for 100% renewable energy by 2025, up from 66% to 80% in 2024, with new solar installations set to cut emissions even further.

Scope 3

Increase use of recycled plastics
Scope 3

By using recycled materials and smarter designs, we're cutting supply chain emissions and helping customers meet their sustainability goals.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

Circularity is at the heart of our approach. By designing durable, reusable packaging and increasing the use of recycled materials, we reduce the need for virgin plastic and lower carbon emissions across the supply chain. This not only minimizes waste but also helps create a more resource-efficient system.

By choosing our RTP solutions, our customers also reduce their own carbon footprint, minimize single-use waste, and support a more circular economy. All without compromising on performance and efficiency.

We measure and report our progress using internationally recognized frameworks, including the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Regular assessments help us stay on track, enhance efficiency, and maintain transparency with our customers and stakeholders.
